    Questions to Ask Your Kennel

    Last updated 5 days ago

Sooner or later, most pet owners will face a serious dilemma: When you go out of town, how can you make sure your beloved animal companion is properly cared for? Taking a pet along on a trip often presents a logistical nightmare and may upset the animal, while leaving your pet at a friend’s house is usually impractical. The best solution is to find a responsible, state-licensed animal boarding kennel.

Here are some good questions to ask before deciding to board your pet at a particular facility:

Is there room for the animals to play and interact?

In order to stay happy and healthy, cats and dogs need adequate space to run around and enjoy themselves. A boarding facility should have play yards that are large enough to give each animal its own space, and all play and rest areas should be climate-controlled to ensure the pets’ comfort and safety. Cats and dogs should be kept in separate areas, for obvious reasons.

Is the facility prepared to care for pets with special needs?

Many pets have special diets, medications, or health or behavioral issues that require an extra amount of effort and attention from whomever is responsible for them. The animal boarding facility you choose should be fully prepared to accommodate your pet’s specific needs.

Are the animals getting the appropriate amount of supervision and attention?

In order to ensure your pet’s safety, it’s essential that he or she be under the close watch of a trained professional 24 hours a day. Pets also need plenty of attention and stimulation, which staff members should be qualified to provide.

At Belle Aire Kennels, we offer a comfortable, climate-controlled pet boarding facility for your cat, dog, or exotic animal and proudly meet all the standards described above. Our animal boarders are constantly supervised and given plenty of attention by our fully trained staff. We even offer personal playtime and ice cream breaks with treats made just for pets. What You Should Know About Puppy Warts

    Last updated 12 days ago

While most dogs benefit from interacting with other dogs, playtime also brings the risk of contracting viruses and bacteria. Puppy warts are among the most common health issues dogs face, which means that all dog owners should be aware of the potential risk they pose to their pets.

    What are puppy warts?

Puppy warts are caused by the Canine Oral Papilloma Virus (COPV), which leads to the formation of benign tumors that resemble warts. These “warts” usually appear inside or just outside the mouth, although they can also develop near the eyes or genitals. While they are harmless in nearly all instances, in some cases, they can cause the dog pain and also precipitate the development of cancerous tumors.

    How is the virus transmitted?

Dogs usually contract the virus in their first two years of life, when their immune systems are not fully formed. Older dogs whose immune systems have been weakened may also be vulnerable to the virus. Dogs generally catch this virus from physical contact with other dogs, usually by brushing noses. Places where dogs commonly catch the virus include: dog parks, dog daycare, boarding facilities, pet stores, and pet training classes.

When should a pet be treated?

Dog owners should inspect their pets’ mouths for warts on a routine basis, particularly if they are younger than two or older than about 10. COPV is not related to the human papillomavirus and is not infectious to humans. If any warts develop, your dog should be examined by a veterinarian right away. If a dog has had warts for six months or longer, your vet will probably recommend antibiotics for your pet.
